Hi everybody !
Following our Facebook page opening, some of you asked us for more details about the game… So, here is a little post that should help shed some light on our dark schemes 🙂
So, what’s the story here ?
Rise of the Elders is a tactical RPG set in the 1920s. You control a group of investigators whose mission is to track down and fight an evil force referred to as the Mythos.
The Mythos is based on a large variety of creatures, but mainly on the infamous Elder gods who are basically synonym of apocalypse whenever they show up.
Here is a little background text we’re still working on :
“Dark forces lurk in the shadows, their whispers corrupting the heart and mind of the weak. All over the world, mad men spread their adoration for pagan idols and gather in blasphemous cults to meddle with powers that should remain forever untouched – powers so great they could do and undo a million worlds in the blink of an eye. For these wretched souls now serve a hideous and terrifying purpose : the awakening of the Elder gods.
But as far as society and science are concerned, the Elder gods don’t exist. They are but a mythos : an abject fantasy, a deviant piece of folklore dug up from the meanders of our History !
You are among the few chosen ones who know the frightening truth, for you saw it in your dreams. You know the world will come to an end if you don’t stop this madness, now !
Alas, you won’t be facing an ordinary foe : that one is infinitely big and will put your reason to the test. If the grotesque abominations serving the Mythos don’t kill you, then your nightmares probably will.
You have been warned.”
Okay, and how does it work ?
Well, the main interface is made of a huge world map on which you give orders to your investigators. Part of your job is to organize their travels by optimizing their itineraries and means of transport (plane, train, boat, car, hiking). Once your investigators are where you need them to be, you can assign them to all kind of tasks, like collecting funds to finance an expedition, studying a relic to learn its dark powers, or investigating a mysterious event to progress on the storyline…
At the end of the day, your goal is to keep the servants of the Mythos in check by ramping up your own forces and investigating as many mysteries as possible, until you find a solid way to avoid the return of the Elder god.
Needless to say, there will be a lot of fighting involved in the process… Indeed, science and research can only help you so much, and since your enemies are not the reasonable type (and not exactly open to diplomacy) there comes a point where only your guts and weapons can deal with the Mythos. To that intend, we are working on a really cool turn-by-turn action phase that we want to be both fast paced as well as highly tactical. Hopefully, we will soon be able to tell/show you more about that, but in the meanwhile, all I can tell you is that we are putting a lot of focus on providing the player with a wide range of options (lots of items, weapons, spells, abilities, etc.) while building a ruleset that reflects the harsh reality of Lovecraft’s stories (including mental health, impact of fear and terror, etc.).
I don’t like to read ! Can you explain it to me with pictures please ?
Of course ! You don’t want the world to end like that :
So you’ll have to do a lot of this :
In order to do that :
And if things go south, it might look a bit like this :
I like it ! How can I help you ?
Well, please help us put the word out there… If you have friends or simply know people who could be looking forward to this game, inform them or share our Facebook page with them – that would be really helpful and much appreciated ! Unfortunately, we don’t have the financial means to send you huge amounts of money to reward you for that, but you’d have our eternal gratitude for sure ! 🙂
Also, if you feel like sharing your feedbacks with us already (or if you simply want to ask more questions) don’t hesitate to reach out via the Facebook messenger or by sending us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org… We don’t want this to be just our game, but rather OUR game – get it ? 😉
